What You Should Know About Brake Fluid

Brake fluid, which can also be called hydraulic fluid, is an integral part of your vehicle's braking system. It helps all of the components of your braking system run correctly. If your vehicle doesn't have brake fluid, you wouldn't be able to stop when your foot engages the brake pedal. Let's find out more about brake fluid below.

There are two main types of brake fluid, which are silicon-based and glycol-based. Glycol-based brake fluids are made for vehicles with Anti-lock Brake Systems (ABS), and silicon-based brake fluids are typically used in automobiles without ABS. Although most service mechanics recommend having your brake fluid changed every couple of years, we suggest that you reference your owner's handbook to see how often your brake fluid should be changed.

If you need to have your vehicle serviced, we invite you to contact our service center at Honda City Chicago.
